About

Old Man River Project is an modern day expedition to rediscover the Mississippi River with the explicit intent of supporting the mission of Lower Mississippi Riverkeeper. The expedition has five main objectives.

1. Build a 32 foot wooden York Boat and name her ANNIE.

2. Travel the length of the Mississippi River from Bemidji, Minnesota to the Gulf of Mexico in Louisiana – a distance of 2400 miles or 4000 km – without burning a tank a gas.

3. Document the expedition through words, images and video at www.oldmanriverproject.org so others can experience the Mississippi River online with us.

4. Promote and connect people to Lower Mississippi Riverkeeper.

5. Hand ANNIE over to Lower Mississippi Riverkeeper after reaching the Gulf of Mexico.

I read the article in the Hamilton Spectator and thought, what an amazing story!! Everyone should do something like this while they can! Good for you and all the best of luck. I sailed on the Delta Queen from New Orleans to Memphis which was awesome but I’m sure your memories of this trip will be remembered long after mine.
Again all best, will be following your story.

I just wanted to wish you all continued good weather and luck on your journey. You met my parents Rhonda & Grady Flint in Minnesota not too long ago. We’re from Alabama, but are currently working/living in Baton Rouge. I can’t imagine how exciting this journey is:)

We were enjoying our southern dinner of Chicken n’ Dumplin’s and fried green tomatoes out on our porch, when we all stopped talking to listen to a new sound. The sound of a rhythmic thumping out on the river. We turned in our seats to see where the sound was coming from and saw a large wooden mast coming out of the trees. We ran out to the bank to see our new visitors and met the lot of you! We love the story and the inspiration behind your trip! Have a great night in our little town of Little Falls, Minnesota.

It was an honor to help you with your portage this afternoon/evening. Being able to meet explorers first hand will surely inspire many to think of what they can do, including my daughter, Katy. Your adventure on the River shows us that with hard work, perseverance, and a positive spirit, anything is possible. I was most impressed by your positive energy!

Good luck to all of you. Stay safe and healthy, and, continue to enjoy life to its fullest!

Hi, My grandson and I saw you paddling your boat this weekend by Little Falls. What a great project! Good Luck. My grandson was fascinated by the 5 gallon Gatorade container you had! (Shortly after he hooked and almost landed a 4′ catfish!) I’ll be watching for you guys in Minneapolis!

How are yall able to camp out behind the levee at Paulina Beach, I do not know! I’m Sue’s niece and Charlie Poche is our uncle. I live down Uncle Charlie’s street. Wish I was able to go out there and meet yall, but we found out about this too late. Too bad you weren’t able to see the bonfires on the levee yet! Good luck with your adventurous travels.
