Journey Down A Mighty River
Saying goodbye to a Mighty River.
It was about two months since I left my house and after a short 11-hour drive and I am back to where it all began. I ate breakfast with the crew pushed “Annie” off for the last-time and ate a late dinner at home that night. Feels Weird.
My first full day off the river I woke up at 6am thinking I was in my sleeping bag waiting for Brett to get up and give his “Cockadoodle Dooo Boy’s and Girl’s” wake-up call he gives every morning. I heard nothing. Crawled out of bed hungry wondering what to eat, no oatmeal. I have to go to the bathroom and feel the urge to find the shovel and find a good spot but I remind myself I can just use the toilet this morning.
PAS (Post Adventure Syndrome) is setting in I miss the river and my river life not to mention my river family. The adventure I had is one that I will never forget, the people we met the things we saw the obstacles we overcame. I was constantly being inspired and challenged around every bend and I know I will remember these experiences for the rest of my life. I was in my element out there and I am so lucky to have shared this experience with so many like-minded people. There are so many to thank who helped us along the way. They showed us that there are good people in this world who are willing to give a helping hand. I only hope that this will continue for our crew down river. I am sure it will.
So to everyone who helped out, who said hi, who took us in, who inspired us, who shook our hand, who taught us, who took the time to listen to our story. Thank You. I won’t ever forget that and I can only hope I will be able to pay it forward to others in my lifetime.
Although I wish I could see this journey to the end I know that this is the right path for me and I hope to see everyone when they pull into New Orleans. As I sit in my office I am looking at a box of over 200 hours of footage we shot thus far. It’s “Annies” story in that box and I can’t wait to tell it.
Annie will have a story to tell and I am so excited and lucky to have been a part of it to be able to share it with the world. I know the crew will make it to the ocean and take Annie for a bath in the gulf. She will see salt water soon.
Goodluck crew, I will miss you all and can’t wait to see you again. Take care of Annie and don’t forget to keep on enjoying the middle.
I learned to never say goodbye, Just say see you down river…
See You Down River.

Ps I didn’t take many photos on this trip but here are a few.
Annie – The Early Days
Wolfe Island
Before Annie was the beautiful vessel she is today I had the chance to see her in the early stages.
Wolfe Island… The island with so many windmills it looks like it could take off and fly away at any moment. The boat shop lies inside an old barn fit with silos and tons of character. Inside the shop it’s like a museum filled with boats in different stages, from different times, all with their own story. Some are being restored, given a second chance at life and some being built from the ground up like ours. Annie is only a skeleton when I first see her, a hollow frame sitting upside-down on two blocks waiting to be worked on. I can already see her smooth lines and sexy curves. She will be stunning.
After four days of trying to capture her essence on film I bid her and half of the crew farewell. It has been nice to get away from the city and nice to meet some new faces. I am anxious to meet the rest of the crew and start our long voyage. I feel I am ready for the river and I know “Annie” will take care of us.
Her maiden voyage will see her go down The Mighty Mississippi River. I will try to capture her beauty as best I can… feast your eyes on her curves… she will be a good boat… I hope to be a good first mate.
I will be a sailor soon.
